The role of Magnesium in plants
Magnesium is an essential and irreplaceable nutrient element for crop growth. It is the core atom of chlorophyll and improves the efficiency of photosynthesis. Plants lacking magnesium have significantly weaker resistance to sunburn and are prone to sun damage. Magnesium promotes the transport of sugars and amino acids in plants and facilitates the conversion of enzymes within them. It also enhances the utilization efficiency of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, thereby increasing yield and improving quality. Magnesium effectively transports carbohydrates to the roots of plants, ensuring adequate energy supply. It serves as an "elevator" to guarantee sufficient nutrient supply to the upper parts and fruits of plants. Additionally, magnesium reduces the occurrence of pests and diseases, and mitigates the harmful effects of heavy metals such as aluminum on crops and soil.
The primary source of magnesium supplementation for plants is the rational use of magnesium fertilizers.
